Financial guidance

We understand that the cost of studying could be a worry so our student finance team will provide you with practical advice on fees, travel costs, welfare benefits, grants, accommodation and much more. View more information on financial assistance.


Careers advice

Where do you want to be in 10 years time? Our careers advisers can help you take the right path – even before you join the College. Our advisers will continue to be on hand throughout your time at the College, offering impartial advice and guidance on your education, training and work prospects. They are even happy to help you complete your CV, application forms and prepare for interviews.


Counselling service

Should you ever need to talk to someone confidentially about issues in your private or College life we have a dedicated counselling service.


Every student matters

We take the wellbeing and safety of every single student very seriously. We strive to ensure a safe and welcoming environment in College, and have safeguarding and anti-bullying policies in place to ensure that young people and vulnerable adults studying with us do so in a safe and secure environment. If you have any concerns about these issues our trained staff are here to help.


Additional support

Shuttleworth College has an Additional Support team who are on hand to ensure that you have every possible chance to shine. Our committed team can provide you with:

  • the skills you need to improve your assignments
  • specialist equipment such as large keyboards, adapted course material and other resources
  • special exam arrangements
  • support in accessing the College
  • dyslexia, hearing and visual support specialists.

We also have a specialist ‘Deaf Team’ who have been awarded the Action on Hearing Loss (formerly RNID) Louder than Words Charter, which recognises that we offer a fully deaf aware service. We offer support such as: British Sign Language (BSL) and Sign Supported English (SSE) communicators, electronic and manual note takers, deaf student mentor, driving theory guidance, deaf co-ordinator and teacher for the D/deaf. Get involved!

Once you become a student at Shuttleworth College there are lots of ways for you to take an active part in the community life of the College, as well as developing your extracurricular skills that employers and universities are looking for such as team work, communication and taking initiative. We will encourage you to be involved in our wide and varied enrichment programme. Some of the diverse activities you could become involved in are:

  • Volunteering: Choose from a number of different activities and events such as College open days; career and community fairs; visits to schools; student experience days; student representative; student council; student governor; focus groups; peer mentoring; or even writing a blog.
  • Sport: Our fantastic sports facilities at the Bedford and Shuttleworth College campuses are open to everyone, not just sport students. You may want to play for one of the many College teams including our academies for football, rugby, golf, basketball and cricket.
