How much does it cost?


Entry Level to Level 3 courses

Your tuition and exam fees are FREE if you:

• are aged 16–18 on 31 August 2012 AND

• have been resident in the UK for the last three years (unless you have been on a student visa) AND • are a British citizen or have the right to abode in the UK (please check with our Enquiries & Guidance team if you are unsure of your eligibility on 01767 626222) AND

• plan to study an Entry Level to Level 3 course at Shuttleworth College.


If you are 19 or over on 31 August 2012 and would like to study a Level 1 (Foundation) course and have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification then your tuition fee is also FREE. If you want to study a Level 2 or 3 course, you will need to pay a tuition fee each year if you are not eligible for concessions. This is reviewed annually. You will also need to pay a College membership fee (currently £20) for each year you study with us and any exam registration fees


Please note:

• Fees can be paid in instalments by Direct Debit over four or six months dependent on the length of the course. There is a one off administration fee of £15 for using this service.

• Level 1 ESOL/EFL courses are not eligible for free tuition.

• If you are eligible for free exam fees, you must have satisfactory course attendance of at least 85% or you may be asked to cover the cost of your own exam fees.

• If you have not been living in the UK for the last three years, or if you are on a student visa, contact us on 01767 626222 (+44 (0)1767 626222 from abroad) to check on the fees you will have to pay.


Concessions

You may not have to pay your tuition fees if you:

• are on Job Seekers Allowance or Employment & Support Allowance (Work Related Activity Group) AND

• have lived in the UK for the last three years. You may also qualify for up to 100% discount on your tuition fee if you are:

• studying your first full Level 2 qualification and are aged 19 years or above on the start date of your course OR

• studying your first full Level 3 qualification and are aged 19-24 on the start date of your course. If you think that you may qualify call us on 01767 626222.


Other costs

Some courses require you to purchase specialist uniforms, equipment, printing or books. In most cases these will be listed for each individual course on the website.


Higher Education courses (Levels 4/5)

Higher education funding rules set by the government prevent us from extending our free tuition and exam fee offer to HNC/HND and Foundation Degree courses. Please download our Higher Education prospectus or call our Enquiries & Guidance advice line on 01767 626222.


Are you an international student?

Please contact us if you have been resident in the UK for less than three years or have a limit on the length of your stay in the country because different fees may apply.

Bursary for Education Excellence – it could BEE for you!

If you are in Year 11 at school and expect to achieve at least five GCSEs at grade A*-B you could pocket a £1,000 Bursary for Educational Excellence (BEE) from Shuttleworth College towards your full-time Level 3 course. If you qualify, you will receive £500 spread over three instalments each year for two years and you do not need to pay this back. To find out more please call Student Services on 01767 626254.


Professional & career development loan

If you are aged 18 or over and settled in the UK you could apply for a Professional & Career Development Loan, which is a bank loan from participating banks of between £300 and £10,000. You pay this back once you have stopped studying and the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA) pays the interest on the loan while you are studying and for one month afterwards. What funding is available?

There are various sources of money available to help you with your studies:


Student Support Fund

If you are in care or a care leaver you may be able to apply for a bursary to help with day-to-day costs. If you have a particular hardship that would otherwise prevent you from studying, our student support fund may be able to help with essential costs such as child care, books, equipment or travel. Child care

If you’re under 20 you could get support for child care through the Government’s Care To Learn scheme. If you are aged 20 and over we may be able to provide some limited assistance towards the cost of your child care whilst you study. Please contact Student Services on 01767 626254 as soon as possible to find out more. Note: You must demonstrate satisfactory attendance to receive our support.


Army bursary scheme

Are you considering an action-packed career in the army? Under the new Army further education (FE) Bursary scheme, you might qualify to receive a £1,000 bursary while you are studying with us, followed by another £1,000 when you have completed your course and joined the army. Travel costs
