Working in the sport and outdoor education industry means you
will always be part of a huge team effort – whether it is providing
activities such as raft-building, kayaking and mountain biking to
local school or youth groups, or working as a personal trainer or
sports development officer.
These areas benefit from strong government
backing – with the 2012 Olympics fast approaching, it comes as no
surprise that around 620,000 people are currently employed in the
sports and fitness industry. There are roles for various tastes and
abilities in both sectors, but you will have to be fit, highly
motivated and confident as the working environment can be
physically challenging, dangerous and often involves you taking
responsibility for the safety and welfare of those you are
teaching. These kind of jobs will call for you to enjoy working
with people, be level-headed and have good communication skills,
too.
If you are adventurous, energetic and dynamic,
our Sport and Outdoor Education courses will enable you to study
and specialise in subjects including water and land-based
outdoor and adventurous activities, expeditions, leadership in
sport, sports coaching and training and fitness.
The courses will help you to develop
the skills needed within the industry, as well
as offering a range of qualifications which will help you
progress your career by gaining employment or moving on to higher
education. You will also benefit from the strong industry links the
College has with a wide range of outdoor activity providers, which
enable us to offer you a diverse selection of work placements both
in the UK and across Europe. Completing one of these qualifications
really could be your passport to see the rest of the world!
