If you would like to care for or work with horses, and want to
combine learning equine science and business management with sound
practical skills, then our Equine department can offer you the
excellent facilities and expert tutors you will need to forge a
fantastic career in the industry.
You’ll have to be hard-working, and happy to
take part in routine yard duties on a rota of early mornings,
evenings and weekends to ensure the horses are well cared for. If
you can see yourself learning anatomy and physiology alongside
topics like competition grooming then you will enjoy the variety
that is a key part of our Equine courses.
You can take advantage of tuition in riding,
as well as all aspects of horse care and management, at our
facilities in Mount Pleasant, which are equipped with purpose built
stabling, two indoor arenas, classrooms and a student rest room.
Out of class, you will have the opportunity to go on numerous
visits to places of interest, including studs, veterinary centres,
horse sales and competitive events. Guest speakers regularly visit
the centre to give lectures and demonstrations, which complement
the shows and events which are held by the College.
There are also great progression opportunities, as more and more
universities are offering degree-level qualifications in the field,
as well as British Horse Society examinations and qualifications,
and job roles that look for a qualification in this area include
instructors, grooms, event riders, stud farm managers, and welfare
officers. The experience you gain working with such a wide variety
of horses will be invaluable, whatever career path you choose to
follow after College.
