Shuttleworth College is home to a family of
meerkats, descendants of the world famous Aleksandr Orlov,
currently residing in Moscow from where he runs his business
empire, comparethemeerkat.com
Shuttleworth's own version of
“Aleksandr” has followed on the Orlov family name but now needs
your help.
Talking to the world's media, in a funny
accent, he said:
“It's seemple peoples… we need names for our
babies and that is where you come in. I would like to call
them Aleksandr I and II after their most famous ancestor but their
mother Joanna thinks differently! Uncle Nigel also wants a
say in this. So come on peoples - help us out and you could
come and join us for the day and meet our beautiful babies!”.
Carl Groombridge, Animal Unit Manager at
Shuttleworth College, said:
“The fact that the meerkats are breeding shows
that they are happy in their habitat and this could be the
beginning of a large colony. So far we have 3 adults and now
2 baby meerkats.”
”Meerkats are fascinating animals and high
value benefit for students in studying behaviour and
husbandry. The students can study them and have a real affect
on their behaviour. The meerkats certainly know who is boss
and have a real social network of hierarchy. Of course
Aleksandr is always the boss!”.
Name the baby meerkats and win a day at
Shuttleworth College as “zoo keeper for the day” where you will
meet the colony of meerkats and other animals.
