College is gateway to world for Central Beds

Ian Pryce

The combination of Outstanding Ofsted Bedford College and internationally renowned Shuttleworth College is helping to put Central Bedfordshire on the world stage.

  • Since Shuttleworth became part of Bedford College in August 2009, the combined powers of the educational and business expertise has seen the organisation go from strength to strength - for the benefit of local people and local businesses.

  • Shuttleworth College has become part of the Outstanding Ofsted team and has more students than ever before from the local, national and international community

  • The Mansion House is now a profit centre for Old Warden Park and offers training and work experience opportunities for a range of young people - weddings, conferences, outdoor events and musical festivals are all staged in the house and grounds

Bedford College is a draw for people of all ages from throughout the old Mid Beds area and as far as Dunstable who want to take up education and training at the Outstanding Ofsted organisation and its outlets in Bedford, Luton and Kempston.

Last year alone: 5,500 people with Central Beds postcodes studied at Bedford College/Shuttleworth College either as sixth formers or apprentices, professionals or for fun.

Bedford College has close links with senior schools in Central Beds such as those in Ampthill, Biggleswade and Shefford - with many pupils aged 14 having enjoyed the “college experience” with quality vocational courses.

Bedford College has recently provided training for 675 employers in Central Beds - businesses who appreciate the understanding our staff have of industry needs
